I came here on a saturday afternoon. A busy day, line was long service was quick. The cashier was friendly and the food was very good and fresh! The chicken was tender and moist and the waffle was fluffy with a perfectly lightly crisp edge. Their fountain drinks are very refreshing.. i got the cream soda and def got a refill before I left. The seating is interesting so you gotta sort of just catch a seat. People do come here for a brunch kind of thing so people do sit down and take their time.
If you ever want fried chicken, this is the place to go. If I am not coming in for the chicken, why am I here today? Why for the pie cups, of course! It's Pi Day! HCC has a special price $3.14 for pie cups. Now for the big decision, which pie? Apple strudels, double cherry, whiskey buttermilk, bourbon pecans, and pie of the month: cowboy. I couldn't decide and end up with two pie cups: apple strudel which is perfect and cowboy which is sweet and savory at the same time especially when you can't decide. One of the employees suggested sweet potato pie cup but it would have been too much. Next time! Let's not forget the milkshake: Strawberry! Yum... Definitely worth the trip.
This place is really close to Madison Square Park (and the first Shake Shack) and both are fancier versions of fast food. However the "original chickwhich" here is (almost identical in ingredients) but so much better than the "chick-shack" (at Shake Shack), both are fried chicken sandwiches on a potato roll, served with mayo, and pickles. Hill Country Chicken has less heavy breading on the chicken, and the sour pickles were homemade tasting. Plus indoor seating and a downstairs dining room! I would not go out of my way to eat here, but if your nearby, it's good. There is a surprising amount of fried chicken options near the park, but I think this is my favorite!
I love the food! Okay, let me clarify: I love the tenders. They are big, crunchy, and plump. No need to question the chicken. It is tried and most definitely true to taste. The dipping sauces are what makes the trip. They're all homemade. Guaranteed to be enjoyed! I love the buttermilk ranch and my son loves the honey mustard. The sides that we love are the fresh cut french fries, mac N cheese, and loaded mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes have shredded cheddar mixed in and crunchy french fries on top. The only thing missing is the bacon. It tastes so good that you won't forget it. You will be back for it. Now, onto the customer service and lovely people that work here. I mean the nicest, friendliest, smiling staff every time I eat here. They are knowledgeable about the food and willing to help. As a matter of fact, one of the crew members told me to try the sides and that's how I fell in love. Visit!
